1890's Historic Apartment Buildings. Relax in our quiet residential neighborhood (two blocks North of Summit Avenue and one-half a block East of Dale Street) or, walk three blocks to popular Grand Avenue.  We are located in the heart of St. Paul's historic Ramsey Hill area.  Known as the Oak Hall girls' school in the early 1900's, our three buildings were converted into apartments during the 1930's.  580 Holly (brownstone and red brick) is the oldest of the three and is said to have been the girls' dormitory.  590 Holly (white painted brick) was filled with classrooms and included a 3rd floor ballroom.  586 Holly (center building - white painted brick and stucco) had been the gymnasium before its upper two floors were added to create space for four apartments.

  • Number of Apartments -- 34 units in three buildings (10, 8, 16).
  • Neighborhood -- Quiet residential area consisting mostly of larger restored single-family and duplex homes.  Five-minute drive to the State Capitol or into downtown St. Paul.  Three short blocks to the Grand Avenue or Selby Avenue bus lines. 1/2 mile drive to the Dale Street entrance/exit of Interstate-94.  1/2-mile drive to the Grand Avenue entrance/exit of Interstate-35E.
  • Include -- Studio/Efficiency, 1-Bedroom, & 2-Bedroom Apartments.  Laundry room in basement.  Limited number of storage lockers.
  • Laundry -- Ticket Machines in common area laundry rooms.  One ticket per washer load and one ticket per dryer load.  (No coins.) 
  • Parking.  Primarily on-street.  Limited space in first-come, first-served parking lots at rear of buildings.
    • 580 Holly - 7 spaces for 10 apartments.
    • 586 & 590 Holly - 9 spaces for 24 apartments.
  • Pets.  Some ok.  Some not. 
    • Sorry, no dogs.
    • Cats and others will sometimes be considered.  (Not more than two cats in an apartment and No un-neutered male cats.)  If approved, additional rent and security deposit will be required.
    • Animals are not allowed in units with carpet due to potential allergies of future residents. 
  • Music, Noise, Etc. -- Our building residents and neighbors appreciate peace and quiet.  If sound from any apartment can be heard outdoors, in common hallways, or in other apartments, it is probably too loud.
    • We ask residents to try to resolve their own noise problems by using their best efforts to talk directly with the "problem people."  As a last resort, the owner or property manager will intervene, in which case someone often ends up moving (to a new home).
  • Smoke-Free -- All leases prohibit smoking, incense, candles, etc. anywhere inside or close to the building.
  • Tobacco, Incense, Candles & Cooking - Damage & Odors.  Caution -- BUILD-UP of, or lingering ODOR caused by nicotine, smoke, incense, soot, grease, etc., can result in costly cleaning or painting repairs and is IS NOT CONSIDERED NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR.  Residents are responsible for these costs.  Please do not allow odors from your apartment to get into the common halls or other units.

Studio/Efficiency units:

  • Bedroom/Living room, kitchen, bath. These are fairly small-sized apartments.
  • Hardwood floors in one.  Carpet in others.
  • Locations in buildings -- Ground floor only.

1-Bedroom units:

  • 1-Bedroom, living room, kitchen, bath.
  • Hardwood floors in most apartments.
  • Locations in buildings -- Ground floor, 1st floor, 2nd floor, 3rd floor.

2-Bedroom units:

  • 2-Bedrooms, living room, kitchen, bath.
  • Hardwood floors in most apartments.
  • Locations in buildings -- Ground floor, 2nd floor, 3rd floor.

Application & Lease:

Utilities:

  • Telephone, TV, Internet.  Renters pay all charges for these increasingly high-tech items. 
    • Equipment, Service, Wiring, Repairs.
  • Electricity.  Renters pay for electricity. 
    • Lights, appliances, household items, air conditioner, supplemental electric heat, etc.
    • Electricity for supplemental heat, if any, is paid by the renter. 
  • Cooking Gas.  Paid by property owner.
  • Heating Gas.  Owner pays for primary radiator heat.  Please note:
    • Supplemental electric heat is needed in some units & renters pay electricity for that heat. 
  • Hot water, Cold Water.  Paid by property owner.
